Did you know authors use special words and phrases to help you understand the meaning of their writing? In this lesson, you will learn about common literary devices that authors use. Understanding these special phrases will help you engage with English texts and enjoy what you are reading.

Authors sometimes give readers clues about what will happen in a story. As a reader, you can use these clues (and your imagination) to predict what will happen as you read! In this lesson, you will learn to identify clues (called "foreshadowing") and you will practice using your imagination to predict what will happen in a story.
